I love to travel and summer is one of my favorite times to hit the road or hop on a plane. The world has so many wonderful destinations to explore, sights to see, and landmarks to photograph that the places I want to visit in my lifetime is endless. I’ve done quite a bit of traveling already both with Dave and the kids and on my own as well and have learned many tips and tricks along the way to make it all less stressful and more enjoyable. That’s why I’m excited to work with ZzzQuil on this post and to share some of my summer travel tips below.
Summer road trips are always at the top of our travel list and we like to pack up the car and drive to our destination. The trick for packing for road trips is to make a list ahead of time of everything you need while you are away. You want to make sure that you have what you need while in the car, at your destination, and on your way back home. I’m old-fashioned and like to handwrite packing lists and check off each item as I pack it.
When taking a summer road trip, while I always look forward to enjoying myself, I also know that I might not sleep as well. Not being in my own bed can make for a restless night. That’s why, during these occasional times, I pack ZzzQuil to help me get the sleep I need and to wake up refreshed and ready to enjoy my vacation. I also like that ZzzQuil is a non-habit forming sleep aid that’s not for pain, just for sleep.
The one thing I can’t live without when traveling for the summer is a small sound machine. Have you ever stayed in a hotel and had a room near the elevator or stairwell? You can find yourself up all night long with the woosh of the elevator or slam of the stairwell door. That’s where a good sound machine can come in handy and help you get a good night’s sleep no matter which doors are slamming in your hotel hallway.
It’s also good to pack a small emergency kit with things like stain remover, a mini eyeglass repair kit, sewing needle and thread, and more. You never know when something out of the ordinary may pop up like a spilled drop of ketchup landing on your favorite skirt, a button going missing, or your eyeglasses lose a screw. These little kits can come in handy wherever you are traveling.
That leaves me to mention something that should be commonsense, but often gets forgotten – the power cord and a mobile charger for your phone. When you are traveling in the summer you’ll want to get out and about and you don’t want to take a chance at looking at your phone and discovering your battery is down to 1-2% and you still need your map app to help you get you to your destination or if you are already there, back to your hotel. Charge up at night and you can be on the way without a worry in the world during the day.
Even if you are driving your destination may be in another time zone which can lead to jet lag. This can cause you to miss out on lots of fun the first few days of your vacation. My tips include: staying hydrated, jumping right into the new time zone, and going to bed full. On occasion when jet lag is interfering with my sleep, I like to keep ZzzQuil on hand so I can get a full night’s sleep and wake up feeling refreshed.
Finally, don’t forget to take pictures and videos. Whether you use your smartphone’s camera or the latest DSLR, you’ll want to capture those summer travel memories to enjoy them for years to come. When you find yourself trying to stay warm in the winter, you can always pull out your photos and remember the warm sun on your face, the smiles, the fun, and the memories from your summer vacation.
