Fifteen Minutes Outside: 365 Ways to Get Out of the House & Connect with Your Kids – Book Review

With summer around the corner I’m always excited to spend more time outside. When the weather is warm and the sun is shining it’s a great excuse to get out and get some fresh air.

I was excited to read the book 15 Minutes Outside: 365 Ways to Get Out of the House and Connect with Your Kids by Rebecca P. Cohen.  With two active young children in the house, I am always looking for ways to keep them busy. They both enjoy being outdoors, so this book seemed perfect for them.Over the years, I have read quite a few books on activities for children. Many of the ideas in the other books seemed to be the same ones repeated over and over.  I found this book to have new and unique ideas. There is one activity listed for each day of the month. There were plenty of gardening tips, such as how to build a planter box, and seed growing tips as well.

I found most of the activities to be simple and easy to accomplish. However, there were a couple of activities that just weren’t practical for my area, such as a sunrise breakfast outside in January. Even bundled up it would be too cold.

Some of my favorite activities include taking a sketchbook to the park and having the kids draw what they see, plan a monarch way station, play the game “what’s beautiful today?”, winter golf and race to spot the most critters.

Overall, I would recommend 15 Minutes Outside to anyone looking for different activities for their children and a new ideas to get out of the house.

Sounds like a great book to read. Sometimes its hard to get the kids away from the screens and outside, especially in the cold winter months. New, interesting and fun ideas are hard to come by, this book sounds like a something everyone should read!

Thanks for the great ideas. I watch my granddaughter every week and I try to get her outside when the weather is nice so do something to unplug and be a bit active.

Hey there! I’m Tesa, the mom behind 2 Wired 2 Tired. The blog got its name because we have two kids born a year apart and my husband, Dave, and I always joked that "the kids were too wired and we were too tired!" :)

Fast forward a bit—now the kids are off to college (how did that happened so fast!) and since 2009, I’ve been blogging through the chaos, coffee in hand, finding the best in family, travel, and tech—because honestly, who has time for bad gadgets and boring trips?

So, whether you're searching for family travel inspiration, tech gadgets, or tips to enhance family life, you're in the right place because the fun (and the coffee) is always brewing around here!
