After School Snack Ideas

I have partnered with the J.M. Smucker Company to create these after school snack tips. They sent products and coupons and compensation was received. The honest opinions are our own.

It’s back to school season and Kora & Logan are so excited!

First Day Of School 2016They were nervous the first day or so, but now they are getting into the routine and look forward to seeing their friends and teachers every day. They have grown so much. I can’t believe that Kora is in 5th grade at the middle school and Logan is in 4th and will be heading to the middle school next year!

With all that growing, they are always hungry. They can eat an entire meal, clear their plate, and then turn around and ask for a snack. With the long school days they have been coming home hungry so I decided to put together this list of great after school snack ideas.

They are simple and easy to prepare and a hit with the kids too.

Apples and Peanut Butter – This one is a classic.  Simply core and cut up an apple and and dollop some peanut butter on the plate or spread it on each slice with a knife. It’s a delicious combination and when you use natural peanut butter, very healthy too!

Ants On A Log – Kids love this one. Cut celery into 5 or 6 inch long pieces. Fill with peanut butter and then top of raisins. It looks like ants on a long! This is another healthy option when you use natural peanut butter and one that both little and big kids both enjoy.

Tortilla Pizzas – Put a tortilla on a plate, cover it with pizza sauce, top it with your kiddos favorite toppings, and then add mozzarella cheese. Pop it into the microwave for a 30 seconds or so. It’s ready when the cheese gets melty. Serve and wait for the smiles.

Ham & Cheese Pretzel Roll Ups – Lay out a slice of provolone cheese, top with a slice of honey ham, roll them up, and cut them in half, and stick a small pretzel stick through for a handheld after school treat.

Fruit & Cracker Bites – Top some buttery crackers with a bit of cream cheese, and then top with a variety of fruit slices: blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, etc. This snack is easy, looks fancy, and is delicious.

Smucker’s Uncrustables – simply take Smucker’s Uncrustables out of the freezer, 30 minutes before they arrive home from school. You can leave it in the wrapper and just set it on the counter. When they walk in the door hand them their after school snack and watch their eyes light up!

Uncrustables

Uncrustables After School SnackThere are a number of varieties including:

  • Peanut Butter & Grape Jelly
  • Peanut Butter & Strawberry Jam
  • Peanut Butter & Honey Spread On Whole Wheat
  • Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
  • Peanut Butter & Raspberry Spread On Whole Wheat
  • Peanut Butter & Grape Spread On Whole Wheat
  • Reduced Sugar Peanut Butter & Grape Spread On Whole Wheat

We have been buying Uncrustables for years and Kora & Logan are always so excited to see a box or two in our freezer.

Uncrustables FreezerI love how easy and convenient they are. If the kids want to get one on their own after school, they simply ask, grab one out of the freezer, do their homework, and then it is ready to enjoy.

Uncrustables After School SnacksI like that they are great snacks for after school and are filling enough the kids aren’t asking for another snack before dinner.

Not only do the kids enjoy them at home but they are fantastic to go as well. Like many families, our schedule is packed with after school activities and we can bring Uncrustables with us and they are ready to eat when Kora & Logan are hungry.

Smucker’s Uncrustables have been a big part of our lives as the kids have grown up. As you can see they are great after school snacks, are perfect for when our schedule is busy and we are on the go, and they are wonderful for road trips and family vacations as well.

Unrustables Road Trip FunHere’s a secret tip – if you are going to an amusement park, be sure to pack Uncrustables with you when you leave your hotel or vacation home, they’ll defrost while your family is having fun, and your kids will have a delicious mid-morning snack or lunch ready for them!

Fast forward a bit—now the kids are off to college (how did that happened so fast!) and since 2009, I’ve been blogging through the chaos, coffee in hand, finding the best in family, travel, and tech—because honestly, who has time for bad gadgets and boring trips?

So, whether you're searching for family travel inspiration, tech gadgets, or tips to enhance family life, you're in the right place because the fun (and the coffee) is always brewing around here!
