8 Reasons To Upgrade Your Home Router

It seems like everything can be connected wirelessly to your home network now-a-days, think about it, it’s a lot more than just your computers and phones, there are TV’s, thermostats, cable boxes, tablets, video game systems and even kitchen faucets and more.

D-Link DIR 868L

D-Link DIR 868L received.

With all this amazing technology, you NEED a router that can do more than the one that came with your initial cable/internet install 5 years ago! That’s why we were excited about the D-Link DIR 868L and share with you 8 reasons to upgrade your home router.

Faster and Farther – The D-Link DIR 868L uses 11AC technology with up to 1750 mbps. This means its really fast and covers a ton of area for your entire home.

Streaming – we use online streaming for watching shows and movies all the time. Online providers like Netflix and Hulu are just going to continue to gain in popularity, so you might as well get a router that makes your viewing experience seamless and enjoyable. D-Link’s AC1750 router offers flawless HD video streaming to multiple devices and also includes lag free gaming

Create your personal cloud – You are able to connect a mass storage device to your router and share photos, movies, music and just about everything else with whomever your select. Make it available to everyone on the network, or choose and make it more secure with the advanced security settings.

D-Link DIR 868L Your Personal Cloud

It’s easy to setup – Many of you think you need to be a big techy to setup something like this. Setting up the D-Link DIR 868 is a snap. You can use the online web portal, or foe something even easier, use the Quick Router Setup app on your Apple or Android device and you can be up and running very quickly. There is also a WPS button which will allow you to connect many of your wireless devices in a pain free manner. Lastly, 4 gigabit LAN ports and a USB 3.0 port allow you to hardline connect multiple devices as well.

Security – The D-Link DIR 868L includes advanced WPA2 encryption and an option to set up a guest network for office use. Also, parental controls are available to limit what the kids have access to.

Control and manage your home network easily with apps – The D-Link DIR 868L has 3 apps that work directly with it. The QSR or Quick Router Setup app allows for a quick install with no CD or additional software. The Mydlink Share Port app allows you to easily stream and share music, movies and photos from your network to any device like a phone or tablet. Lastly, the mydlink Lite mobile app allows you to control all connected devices, such as camera feeds.

D-Link DIR 868L Use Apps to Improve your Experience

Connect multiple devices easily – we have well over 20 devices in our home that connect wirelessly to our home network. The D-Link DIR 868L can easily work with 25+ devices and prioritize the connected devices using AC SmartBeam to further enhance your high powered wireless signal.

Bang for your buck – The D-Link DIR 868L has a wide array of setup options and can get as customizable as you like. With all of these options, it has a price point about $50 dollars lower than other comparable models. Coming in between $135 and $149 (depending on retailer) you get a lot of value for your investment. This is the top router that D-Link makes, so you will also be ensuring that you will be up to date for the years to come as well.

I know this last one isn’t really a main reason, so I am not counting it amongst my 8 reasons, but I will include it as a bonus reason to upgrade your current router.

It’s Cool Looking – now I know this isn’t a primary reason to upgrade, but the first thing you notice with the D-Link DIR 868L is that it looks more like a speaker, and is lacking those (sometimes) annoying big antennas. This router is able to fit better and nicer than most routers in the market. If you have to upgrade, you may as well look good doing so!

D-Link DIR 868L Top View

If you still have your original router that was provided by your internet provider and if you stream anything or have more than 5 devices connected to your router, you need to upgrade. The D-Link DIR 868L is a great option for you to consider because of the combination of options and the great price point.

What do you use your router for?

I only connect to a laptop, for now. I recently got a new router, and the best part was the much easier setup and connection.

Oh I hope my husband doesn’t see this post. He will want to upgrade just because it looks so cool. :) We have a D-Link router but it’s not this new one. We upgraded about a year ago and our speeds are much faster. Thanks for the review!

Hey there! I’m Tesa, the mom behind 2 Wired 2 Tired. The blog got its name because we have two kids born a year apart and my husband, Dave, and I always joked that "the kids were too wired and we were too tired!" :)

Fast forward a bit—now the kids are off to college (how did that happened so fast!) and since 2009, I’ve been blogging through the chaos, coffee in hand, finding the best in family, travel, and tech—because honestly, who has time for bad gadgets and boring trips?

So, whether you're searching for family travel inspiration, tech gadgets, or tips to enhance family life, you're in the right place because the fun (and the coffee) is always brewing around here!
