The Best Surface Pro 3 Case

I love my Surface Pro 3 – I take it everywhere with me, just like I did with my Surface Pro 2. Except my Surface Pro 2 met an early end when it was in my backpack and my backpack fell to the ground – less than 3 feet – and shattered.

I was crushed and remember how I felt when I heard the loud smacking and cracking sound.

I still carry that memory with me today as a very valuable reminder that you need to keep your portable electronics safe. There are some excellent ways to protect your tablets, phones and laptops by some ingenious companies out there. I prefer to use one that is light and not too bulky. It is important to me that the case is light, but strong at the same time – and of course it must meet certain drop-test standards.

That’s why I’m excited about the Urban Armor Gear case for the Surface Pro 3.

Urban Armor Gear is inspired by a sense of adventure – their goal is to create products which are distinctive and visually striking, but also provide military grade protection against shock. This way you can take your devices on whatever adventure life sends you on. If only I would have had one of these cases on my Surface Pro 2 last spring, I am sure that tablet would have survived that whopping 3 foot fall.

My first impression of the Urban Armor Gear case was that it looked cool, there were 2 color options for the Surface Pro 3, Rogue – a bright red which is a perfect match for my Type Cover Keyboard and Scout which is an all black case, which looks pretty darn good too.

I went with the red so I could easily see the distinctive features of the case. I really like how the case feels, the majority of the back is made up of a rubbery – water resistant gripping material which feels good. The case has a snug fit on my Surface Pro 3, has open access to all the ports and of course is set up so my Microsoft Type Cover Keyboard fits perfect. For the power and volume buttons there are nice oversized buttons which are easy to push and you know when you are pushing them, unlike some other cases where you have to keep pushing because you aren’t sure if it’s working.

Another feature I love about the case is that it does not interfere with the sound or video quality in any way, this is important.

One of my favorite features of my Surface Pro 3 is the kickstand – I think it goes back to their fun commercials that came out and how the kids would always sing that Microsoft song. Even without the song, I like how the kickstand on the Surface Pro 3 is multi-positional – the Urban Armor Gear case offers plenty of options with the kickstand, not quite as many as the Surface Pro 3, but a wide enough range where you will not miss any extra.

The main thing to remember when you are travelling or commuting with your personal electronic devices is that they are fragile. They have glass screens and don’t like drops! You need to protect your devices, because, let’s be honest, they are necessary for work and our personal lives, and they are expensive!

Whether you have a Surface Pro 3 like me, an iPad, Android tablet or any smartphone – protect it and place it in an Urban Armor Gear case. Not only will you look good, but your investment will be safe.

Hey there! I’m Tesa, the mom behind 2 Wired 2 Tired. The blog got its name because we have two kids born a year apart and my husband, Dave, and I always joked that "the kids were too wired and we were too tired!" :)

Fast forward a bit—now the kids are off to college (how did that happened so fast!) and since 2009, I’ve been blogging through the chaos, coffee in hand, finding the best in family, travel, and tech—because honestly, who has time for bad gadgets and boring trips?

So, whether you're searching for family travel inspiration, tech gadgets, or tips to enhance family life, you're in the right place because the fun (and the coffee) is always brewing around here!
