Fun Family Spring Break Vacation Ideas

Fun Family Spring Break VacationsWe’ve been very lucky here in Michigan and have had a mild winter. Even so, mild is 20 degrees! We are happy here if the temps stay above zero this time of year. With spring around the corner I’ve been daydreaming about packing up our suitcases and hitting the road or hopping on a plane to fly some place warm once the kids are on spring break.

Since I was doing a little research about where to go, I thought I’d write a post fun family spring break vacation ideas. We’ve been to all of these destinations and can’t wait to get back to them again soon. So sit back, relax, grab a fruity drink, and daydream along with me.

Discovery CoveDiscovery Cove

We went to Discovery Cove in Orlando, Florida last year and it was one of my favorite family trips ever. They only let about 1300 people into the park every day so there are no crowds, no standing in long lines, no hustle and bustle. It’s a relaxing park filled with tropical music, palm trees, and hammocks.

You can relax the day away or you can swim with dolphins, snorkel with sting rays, float in a lazy river, feed colorful birds in an amazing aviary, and more.

It’s also an all-inclusive type of park. When you buy your tickets, parking and all food is included. That means no having to pull out your wallet for breakfast, snacks, lunch, or sweet treats.

I’ll never forget swimming with the dolphins with my family and treasure every moment from this trip that I can’t wait to go back again soon!

Gulf County Florida

Gulf County ShellsIf you are looking for a place to unplug and reconnect with your family than Gulf County Florida is the place for you. This county is on the Florida panhandle and is so remote it only has three stoplights!

While the wifi signal may be scarce you’ll have the chance to take a sunset dolphin cruise, go fishing, relax on the beach, start an amazing shell collection, and look up at a night sky filled with more stars than you’ve ever seen (esp. if you are a city dweller).

A trip to Gulf County is one your family will never forget.

Sanibel Island Florida

Sanibel Dolphin CruiseWe had the chance to go to Sanibel Island last spring and it was so much fun. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and the beach was covered in shells. Walking along a fishing pier we met a friendly pelican who seemed to enjoy posing for photos (though we know he was just waiting for one of the fishermen to drop a fish!).

The beach was spotted with people lounging in chairs, laying on towels, playing in the waves, and building sandcastles.

One of our most memorable moments was the sunset dolphin cruise we took on a power boat. I’ve never seen so many dolphins! They would leap, jump, and twist in the wake of the boat like they were having as much fun as we were.

If it’s in the budget and you are in Sanibel I can’t recommend this cruise enough. You’ll have pictures and videos to cherish for years to come.

Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, OhioKalahari Resort Sandusky

If you and your family are looking for a fun way to cool off during spring break how does a trip to America’s largest indoor waterpark sound?

Inside Kalahari you’ll find an enormous wave pool, colorful, twisting waterslides, a lazy river, and even the largest game arcade in the midwest.

Not only is Kalahari packed full of indoor fun, but they have an amazing Outdoor Adventure Center as well where you can feed and pet all kinds of animals like kangaroos, a giraffe, and even lemurs, you can also climb a ropes course, zipline around the property, and a scale a rock wall.

There is so much to do and we found Kahalari to be a fun family destination that has something for everyone including swimming, video games, and even outdoor adventure.

Universal Orlando Resort

Universal Resort OrlandoA trip to Universal Orlando Resort is full of action, fun, wizardy, rides, and memorable moments. You can stay at one of the resort hotels which are all themed, lovely, and very convenient to the parks.

When in the parks you can start the day off with a Superstar Character Breakfast and then hop on rides like Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket, The Amazing Adventures Of Spiderman, Harry Potter & The Escape From Gringotts, and many more.

There are many fantastic and fun areas throughout the parks as well including The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter Diagon Alley and Hogsmede, Seuss Landing, Marvel Super Hero Island, Jurassic Park, and Toon Lagoon. There are shows to see as well including Blue Man Group and Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular, as well as fun parades to enjoy with your kids.

A trip to Universal Orlando Resort is one that will have you making scrapbooks or photobooks to preserve all the family fun and smiles to enjoy for years to come.

Lots of great places to visit. I am sooooo ready for Spring!

Hey there! I’m Tesa, the mom behind 2 Wired 2 Tired. The blog got its name because we have two kids born a year apart and my husband, Dave, and I always joked that "the kids were too wired and we were too tired!" :)

Fast forward a bit—now the kids are off to college (how did that happened so fast!) and since 2009, I’ve been blogging through the chaos, coffee in hand, finding the best in family, travel, and tech—because honestly, who has time for bad gadgets and boring trips?

So, whether you're searching for family travel inspiration, tech gadgets, or tips to enhance family life, you're in the right place because the fun (and the coffee) is always brewing around here!
