Are Football Games Too Long For You? Speed Them Up Like I Do

I love to watch football. Whether I’m at the game or at home couch-gating.

Tivo Football

TiVo Roamio Plus & service provided.

That’s why I’m excited about TiVo. It’s makes watching football even more enjoyable…I know! I didn’t think it was possible either! The best thing about TiVo, from a big sports fan’s perspective, is the ability to watch any game I want in a rapid fashion.

I, like most of us, have a pretty busy schedule, work, kids, work, kids and an occasional feeble attempt at the gym take up most of my week. However being a Cleveland sports fan means that the teams are literally in your blood, you have to watch the games. Even the Cavs games from the 4 years that you know who went on a vacation down south, and all the Browns games even from the rough years (or decade or so).

TiVo lets you automatically set a schedule of events to record. This means all Browns, Cavs and Tribe games are recorded automatically. I can even set it to record shows about the teams if I want, and you have to make sure to add some time afterwards because you never want to miss an overtime ending.

Tivo Football GameWhen you think about the length of the games being between 2-4 hours, it is difficult to have that much time at the end of the day. But TiVo makes it very possible. I can watch every play of a Browns (or any football team) game in about 30 – 40 minutes. Of course we skip the commercials, and the TiVo Advance button is perfect for fast forwarding thru the play clock, just one tap and the next play is ready to start up. Of course I can press the Instant Replay button and watch a great play again and even use the slow motion feature as well.

Tivo Remote

As for basketball and baseball, the 30 second Advance button doesn’t always work for the time between pitches or offensive possessions (this is how I watch the Cavs, because for them defense is optional), so the Fast Forward button with 3 degrees of speed are perfect to zip ahead to the next thing I want to watch. As an added bonus the kids always think it’s hilarious to see the athletes moving at what they call “super speed” as I fast forward.

You may think that recording all these shows can take up recording space pretty quickly, well the 3,000 hours available in our Roamio Plus may never fill, especially when I watch 4 hours of a sporting event in 30 minutes! Thinking about the 3,000 hours, I may have to challenge that and tape every college football game this Saturday (TiVo lets you record 6 shows at once), then I can see how long it takes me to watch them all and tell Tésa that I am performing a “work study” as I sit on the couch all day and watch football.

TiVo will make sure your busy schedule never prevents you from watching the game everyone is talking about at the water cooler. There are so many other benefits of TiVo, but a simple sports guy like me can see the benefits of using it just to watch a game.

My second son played high school and college football. When we go to his house he tivo’s the college games on Saturday and watches the plays so quickly it makes us dizzy. One way to get the games in with 3 children under 4 years of age.

Hey there! I’m Tesa, the mom behind 2 Wired 2 Tired. The blog got its name because we have two kids born a year apart and my husband, Dave, and I always joked that "the kids were too wired and we were too tired!" :)

Fast forward a bit—now the kids are off to college (how did that happened so fast!) and since 2009, I’ve been blogging through the chaos, coffee in hand, finding the best in family, travel, and tech—because honestly, who has time for bad gadgets and boring trips?

So, whether you're searching for family travel inspiration, tech gadgets, or tips to enhance family life, you're in the right place because the fun (and the coffee) is always brewing around here!
