Elephant & Piggy Like Reading & So Do We: #EPLR Prize Pack Giveaway

Thank you to Disney Publishing for selecting us as sponsored Mo Willems ambassadors and providing the prize packs. The honest opinions are our own.

I wrote awhile back about how Mo Willems has been Logan’s favorite author since preschool. His teacher read some of the books to his class and Logan was hooked. He loves the stories, illustrations, and the humor.

Mo WillemsMo Willems is a number one New York Times best-selling author and illustrator, has been awarded a Caldecott Honor on three occasions, for Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale, and Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity. The celebrated Elephant & Piggie early-reader series has been awarded the Theodor Seuss Geisel Medal on two occasions (for There Is a Bird on Your Head! and Are You Ready to Play Outside?) as well as garnering five Geisel Honors (for We Are in a Book!, I Broke My Trunk!, Let’s Go for a Drive!, A Big Guy Took My Ball! and Waiting Is Not Easy!).

That’s why when we were asked to be Mo Willems ambassadors, I jumped at the chance. We recently received a fantastic package full of books, cookies, pins, and finger puppets!

Elephant & Piggie Love Reading

Elephant & Piggie Love Reading PackageThis package was sent to us to celebrate a new beginning reader series by Mo Willems, Elephant & Piggie Like Reading (#EPLR) where Elephant & Piggie introduce kids to their favorite books brought to life in original stories created by contemporary children’s authors and illustrators.

Elephant & Piggie Love ReadingEach book is 64 pages long and offers a great story that kids can relate to. In true Mo Willems form, the books are fun and funny too.

The books also keep up the dialogue driven format that you find in the Elephant & Piggie books, it connects all the books together in an active, storytelling style that keeps kids turning page after page wondering what’s going to happen next.

In the book, We Are Growing, Walt & his friends are blades of grass who are realizing that growing up isn’t always the easiest.

We Are GrowingIt seems someone is always the something-ist, but what about Walt? He doesn’t think he’s the anything-ist. But a big surprise inches closer and Walt discovers something special of his own.

We Are Growing BookThe award winning author and illustrator Laurie Keller, has created many children’s books including Birdie’s Smile Book, The Scrambled States of America Talent Show, and more.

Laurie KellerIn the second book in the #EPLR (Elephant & Piggie Like Reading) series, Cookie Fiasco, four friends, Hippo, Croc, and the Squirrels are determined to have equal cookies for all.

The Cookie FiascoBut how? There are only three cookies and four of them, on top of that they need to act fast before nervous Hippo breaks all the cookies into crumbs.

Cookie Fiasco BookDan Santat is the author and illustrator of the recent Caldecott winner, The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend, and many other books. For Disney-Hyperion he illustrated Oh, No! and Oh, No! Not Again! by Mac Barnett, Always Lots of Heinies at the Zoo by Ayun Halliday, and Because I’m Your Dad by Ahmet Zappa. He is also the creator of Disney’s animated hit The Replacements.

Dan SantatWe are a family of bookworms and like reading as much as Elephant & Piggie. You’ll often find us with our noses buried in books and Kora, Logan, and I can spend ages in libraries or bookstores.

Elephant & Piggie Like ReadingThere’s just nothing like finding a new favorite book to read and then reading it over and over again. I’m excited about this new series and the new books. They will be in stores September 20th, so be sure to be on the lookout for them. I’m certain they will be big hits and will be on many wish lists this holiday season.

I’m a firm believer in the value of picture books for any age child but I’m wondering if you think these books would be appropriate for this age group? At any rate, I’m will be reading these to grandkids. Thanks!
