I feel like there is a negative opinion of you if you are seen playing games on your smartphone in public. I love just sitting back and playing a mind-numbing game, it is a quick break from reality, and it’s fun. So why do I sometimes feel the need to shield or hide my screen so random strangers don’t see me matching 3 of a kind or playing a word game?
I think that feeling comes when I bust out my smartphone to play a quick game when it’s the middle of the work day, or maybe I can just hear my wife’s voice saying “are you playing that game again?”
DO NOT be ashamed next time you play a game in public, because there are some positive aspects that come out of it as well.
Concentration
I know it may sound funny, but it can be tough to get from level 27 to 28. It may take you many tries, but through hard work, focus and concentration you can get there. This may involve some planning or outside the box thinking, but there is definitely some concentration required.
Active Mind
While you are doing all that concentrating, keep in mind that your mind is working and staying active. You are thinking about your next move or planning your next attach in whatever game you are playing. Does your mind work this much while you are watching TV? Normally not, so the games you are playing on your smartphone also help keep that mind of yours active and sharp.
Social Aspect
Many people think burying your head in your phone makes you anti-social. This may or not be the case. There are lots of times you can be playing games on your smartphone and you have to work with others and communicate with others to advance or to give yourself a better chance at advancing. Communication may be thru Facebook or the game itself, and you can truly make some new online friends. Just make sure you don’t send me any Facebook Farmville requests!
Accomplishment
Completing something that you are truly trying hard to finish feels good. It could be finishing that level that you have been stuck on for a couple of days, or finally beating that opponent that previously owned you. Winning and finishing a board both feel good, and there is definitely a feeling of accomplishment that comes with it.
I know that burying your head in your phone and playing games isn’t the best thing to do all the time, but doing it every now and then can be a good thing too. Just make sure not to play around your kids. Instead of burying your head in your phone around your kids, feel free to talk to them and play some real games!
