Brown Sugar Glazed Smoked Ham Recipe

Dave loves to grill and smoke food. That’s why he was excited to make a Brown Sugar Glazed Smoked Ham this past weekend. As food bloggers, we’ve made all kinds of recipes over the years and this one was so mouthwatering and delicious, it has taken it’s place at the top of our list as our favorite!

Brown Sugar Glazed Smoked Ham RecipeWe had a big enough ham that we shared extras with family and neighbors and everyone raved about it. No one could believe how juicy and flavorful the ham was with a fantastic hint of smoke, topped with a crispy sweet brown sugar crust. Yum!

My mouth is watering just writing about it! Good thing we have leftovers and I can have some more for lunch!

Brown Sugar Glazed Smoked Ham - Amazing! If you’ve ever wondered how to smoke a ham, you’ll be happier to know it’s easier (and more flavorful) than you think.

Dave used his electric smoker for this recipe and even though it’s a fairly simply recipe, it does involve a bit of hands on time in preparation and when making and applying the glaze, so be sure to factor that in when you are making it. Once it’s in the smoker, though you are free to work on your sides, desserts, or other recipes for your cookout.

Brown Sugar Glazed Smoked Ham Recipe - Yum!

Ingredients

  • Spiral Cut Bone-In Ham – Bone-in is highly recommended for more flavor
  • 1/4 Cup Brown Mustard
  • 1/2 Cup Pork Rub
  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup BBQ Sauce or Honey
  • 1 tbsp water
  • Apple wood chips
  • Apple juice

Directions

  1. Preheat electric smoker to 215 degrees
  2. In a medium size bowl mix together brown mustard and pork rub
  3. Rub the ham down brown mustard and pork rub mix. Rub it all over the ham making sure to cover the top, bottom, and sides
  4. Place apple wood chips in smoking bin and apple juice in smoker reservoir bowl
  5. Place ham in the smoker for 2 and 1/2  hours
  6. Resist the urge to check on the ham, it’s important to keep the door closed
  7. Make your glaze using a pre-made mix or make your own by combining in a medium size bowl: brown sugar, water, and BBQ sauce or honey
  8. Heat medium size sauce pan on stove on med-hi, pour in glaze
  9. After 2 and 1/2 hours take the ham out but be sure to close the smoker door quickly to keep the heat in
  10. Glaze should be bubbling on stove by the time you bring the ham in, apply the glaze right away with a silicone brush. Place as much glaze on the outer shell of the ham as you can.
  11. Return the ham to the smoker for another 30 minutes
  12. Remove the ham from the smoker, cover it with aluminum foil, and let sit for 15 minutes.

Tip: If you want a thicker glaze, let it sit in the bowl for 5 minutes before you brush it on. That’s what Dave did and it was amazing!

We can’t stop thinking about this Brown Sugar Glazed Smoked Ham! It was so full of flavor and delicious that we can’t wait to make it again soon! We highly recommend giving it a try if you have a smoker. You could adapt it as well if you don’t.

Brown Sugar Glazed Smoked Ham Recipe - Delicious!Dave loves his electric smoker and we are looking forward to enjoying even more wonderfully smoked food this spring and summer. He has a charcoal smoker on his wishlist. He’s heard they are fantastic and can’t wait to get one someday. I think his dream backyard would include a patio or deck filled with outdoor cooking appliances: a grill, electric smoker, charcoal smoker, and fire pit for roasting marshmallows for dessert!

We hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we did and hope you have a fantastic barbecue, cookout, or picnic!
