Thank you to Scholastic for sponsoring this post. The honest opinions are our own.

Captain Underpants BookIf you haven’t read anything by Dav Pilkey you are in for a treat. He writes the popular Captain Underpants series and in my opinion is one of the best children’s book authors out there. With a title like Captain Underpants, you may not think the books would have a high level of writing but he uses a large and wide vocabulary which challenges children, descriptive language which transports them into the story, as well a lot of alliteration which makes the books fun to read. He wraps it all up in the comical adventures of two boys and their hypnotized principal who turns into Captain Underpants.

I have to admit that when I first saw the series and the covers of the books, I thought “No way, that’s not for us.” I’m a huge book snob. I graduated with a degree in English so I have a very high standard for books even if they are meant for children. Then Logan went through a phase where he didn’t enjoy reading very much. I made sure he had all kinds of books about things he was interested in, but it was to no avail. Then one day I decided to page through Captain Underpants. I was shocked to realize it was very funny and incredibly well written. I picked up a copy and the kids and I started reading it together when we got home that night. After just the first few pages Logan was hooked!

Now he’s a big fan of all books by Dav Pilkey and loves the Captain Underpants series. He’s read them all a number of times and counts down the days every time he hears a new book is coming out. Kora is a huge fan of the books too and she thinks they are just as hysterical and adventurous as Logan. They both have even spent a lot of time drawing Harold, George, and Captain Underpants and making up comic strip adventures and Flip-O-Ramas of their own.

That’s why they were incredibly excited to receive an advance copy of the new book: Captain Underpants And The Sensational Saga Of Sir Stinks-A-Lot.

Captain Underpants Back

Here’s the summary:

There’s something rotten in the state of Ohio, and it’s smellier than a pile of putrid gym socks! Steer clear–it’s Sir Stinks-A-Lot!

George, Harold, and their doubles, Yesterday George and Yesterday Harold, have a good thing going. Two of them go to school, while the other two hide in the tree house and play video games all day–then they switch! But when their malicious gym teacher, Mr. Meaner, creates a method of mind control that turns their fellow students into attentive, obedient, perfect children, the future of all humanity will be in their hands!

Captain Underpants And The Sensational Saga Of Sir Stinks-A-Lot will be in stores August 25th, 2015.

Kora and Logan were so excited about this book that they both flew through it, each reading it in just a day or two.

Captain Underpants Review

They recorded a video to share their thoughts about the book:

Another reason Dav Pilkey is one of my favorite children’s book authors is because he is so honest in talking about the challenges he faced as a child in school. His story is relatable to many children out there and it’s very inspiring too:

When Dav Pilkey was a kid, he suffered from ADHD, dyslexia, and behavioral problems. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hall every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories, so he spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books.

In the second grade, Dav Pilkey created a comic book about a superhero named Captain Underpants. His teacher ripped it up and told him he couldn’t spend the rest of his life making silly books.

Fortunately, Dav was not a very good listener.

He recently recorded this inspiring and informational video titled: READING GIVES YOU SUPERPOWERS

I recommend this book to anyone with a child in their life who loves to read, who needs a little encouragement when it comes to reading, and to those who love to laugh. This book is great for kids at heart too!

I can see from the title of the book how it would create smiles, and giggle, on the faces of children.

Hey there! I’m Tesa, the mom behind 2 Wired 2 Tired. The blog got its name because we have two kids born a year apart and my husband, Dave, and I always joked that "the kids were too wired and we were too tired!" :)
