How To Care For Your Lawn Organically

As an Amazon Associate/Influencer, I earn from qualifying purchases.

It was always such a feeling of jealousy driving down the street and seeing that GREEN lawn.

SaferBrand Organic Lawn Care Program received.

I enjoy working in the yard, and I always seemed to have a nice lawn, but not that lawn that will invoke jealousy from your neighbors.  One of the reasons for my lack of an amazing lawn is because since the kids were born, we have become very conscience of what we put on our lawn because the kids run around in the grass.

There are too many chemicals in most lawn care fertilizers and just too many unknowns. This is why we are excited about SaferBrand Organic Lawn Care Program.

SaferBrandSafer Brand organic lawn care products are organic and more importantly safe! I am going to talk about our experience with the Safer Brand Lawn Care Program, which is a full treatment set up for your lawn for the entire season. The kit contains 3 bags of Ringer Lawn Restore, 1 bag of  Weed Prevention Plus, a soil thermometer, an application calendar and most importantly – with over 115 lbs of material – free shipping!

The instructions on the site recommend that those of here in Ohio start off with the first application of the Safer Brand Ringer Lawn Restore in April. We applied ours in the last week of April mainly because we are still expecting one last snowfall to sneak up on us until May 1st.

Application is very simple, just pour the fertilizer into your spreader, switch it to the proper dispensing setting, and spread it across your lawn. It is ideal to have a dry yard when you dispense the fertilizer, and then it is recommended to water it immediately to activate it.

Green LawnContinue to water your lawn  but do not over saturate, just keep it moist over the next 3-4 days.

The Lawn Restore Fertilizer is a controlled release fertilizer made up of organic materials, a blend of beneficial soil microorganisms which will help provide a quick green-up, promote strong, deep root development and make your lawn healthier, thicker, and more immune to weather conditions and lawn diseases. There is no manure in this and no manure odor, so there is no reason to hold your nose during and after application!

Once the ground warms up sometime in mid May, you are able to use your soil thermometer. Once the thermometer reads over 55 degrees, it is time to apply the Weed Prevention Plus.

Safer Soil Thermometer

SaferBrand Soil ThermometerIt’s the same easy application as before and you can rest easily, knowing that the Weed Prevention Plus kit will be working while you are relaxing.

This is an all natural corn gluten meal which contains natural substances that grow (good) bacteria and starve the weeds of the nutrients the weed’s roots need to grow. It acts as a pre-emergent herbicide causing the weed seedlings to die before their roots ever have a chance to become established.

Our next application will be in July. This application is the Ringer Lawn Restore which is the same as the first application. This will further strengthen the grass helping the roots further develop, make the lawn greener and thicker. Remember, a nice thick and robust lawn is able to choke out emerging weeds and stay healthy.

Finally, after consulting my included application calendar, I will apply the last dosage of the Ringer Lawn Restore in September to get my lawn ready for winter. Even though the thought of prepping for winter makes me sad, I can gain some happiness by realizing that my lawn will look great and be healthy next spring.

So far we have been very happy with our lawn, we have an area with new grass that has grown in great and has been weed free thanks to fertilizing it. Our existing lawn is much better than last year, and we are getting close to having that lawn that will make the neighbors envious, I am confident that we will be there by mid summer! Most importantly, we feel good and safe about having our kids enjoy the lawn knowing that using SaferBrand made up of all organic materials!

Green GrassThe SaferBrand has an entire line of organic products that will be sure to help you with whatever you are working on for your lawn or garden, as well as those summertime pests. Check them out on their website and you can feel good about treating your home with organic gardening solutions!

What about you? What secrets do you have to help maintain a healthy and green lawn?

We have the same philosophy about our lawn. Yours looks lovely though! Ours is still quite weedy (when we bought we basically got a very overgrown lawn to try and re-tame) but it’ll get there eventually!

It’s so wonderful to hear of someone else concerned about putting chemicals all over lawns. Good for you and thanks for the tip!

I would love to try this! I have really nice grass in my backyard, but not so much in the front yard. I’d love to get the front of my yard looking good!

  33. Olivia Rubin says

    June 28, 2013 at 9:22 pm

My mom finished that saying “the grass is always greener on the other side…and then you realize it is AstroTurf!”

That’s is great that you found a healthy way to care for your lawn and your family. It’s Interesting that one would put harmful chemicals on their lawn knowing the run – off will go into the water we drink. This is why I always stop my dog when she tries to eat grass.
But if we came to your home she could munch away!

  34. Jennifer Marie says

Seems as though if my hubby mows it more frequently and keeps it from getting too long it stays green more.
