LiftMaster 8550 with MyQ Technology received.
It happens about once a week . . . that sinking feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you are about half way to your destination after leaving your home. DID I CLOSE THE GARAGE DOOR????? And it’s not just when you leave, that question can pop into your head at any moment, the middle of your workday, after checking out at the store, or worse, when you are on the runway taking off to go on vacation.
It’s even worse if you are like 70% of Americans who use their garage door as the primary entrance to your home. If the garage door is open, so is your entire home.
That’s why I’m excited about the LiftMaster 8550 with MyQ Technology garage door opener. Once it was installed it seems like it can do any and everything you need, except have a cup of coffee waiting for you as you leave in the morning. I wouldn’t be surprised if that coffee option becomes available in a future update though!
So what exactly can the new LiftMaster do? Well, I mentioned that dirty thought that enters your head when you leave the home – did I close the garage door? Well with LiftMaster with MyQ Technology, you are able to hop on your smartphone and see if its opened or closed, and if you did forget, you can push a button and have the ease of mind knowing your door is closed. This feature can be accessed anywhere you have an internet connection, on your phone or on a computer.
No more going back home, or calling a neighbor or friend to go help you out. This is even an awesome feature for letting someone into your home, no more hiding a key or passing out keys. In addition, you can set up your opener so that you receive a notification on your smart phone every time the garage door is opened, this allows you to know the status of your home and lights at all times. Best part is that the MyQ mobile app is free to download. Now that is a pretty cool and a function that is very useful, but that’s far from all MyQ Technology allows you to do.
There are a couple of accessories that really allow your LiftMaster to become a smart garage door opener. You can connect your opener to your router and the internet and allow your car remote to turn on lights in the house. Also, you can add the garage and gate monitor which can be setup anywhere in the house and allows you to see if the door is open or closed, and also allows you close the door.
This could be a really convenient option for everyone, instead of getting up to check on the door, you can simply look at your monitor, and if by chance you left the door open, one button lets you close it with ease, so you are safe and secure. Another smart feature on the LiftMaster with MyQ technology opener is the motion lights. As soon as I walk in the garage, or open the door from the house, the light turns on. I have found this to be extremely convenient and helpful when I am going to the car with my hands full.
All of these functions are great, but my favorite may be the one that can help you out in a big bind. In the past I have come home during a power failure and have been locked out of the house. At the time it didn’t immediately click that no power = no working garage door. Well the LiftMaster features a Battery Backup which allows the opener to operate during power outages, allowing safe and secure access into your garage no matter the weather.
Installation of the LiftMaster opener was a breeze, I simply opened up the garage door and the installer did the rest! But in reality, it installs just like any other garage door opener, with the exception of just a couple of extra steps to connect your opener to your router to allow transformation into a smart garage door opener.
We love the LiftMaster opener with MyQ Techonology, in addition to all the new features, it is also amazingly quiet, before it would sound like a motorcycle roaring down the street, but now you can barely hear it, which is perfect for those who happen to have a bedroom right above the garage!
